NEWS:

The out and out success of the
retro-impro Fight Club attack in autumn has opened up a very interesting
way forward for the Giri and their plans for post-album filth-strategy.
It's very possible that the next phase of Giri live activity is
going to be as a purely improvisational noise unit, turning up
and plugging in and spewing forth the vileness in the way they've
done for years behind closed doors, but have only recently placed
in front of other people for scrutiny and awe. A CD of the Fight
Club Impro Joy has been made and there are plans to release some
of this stuff in the new year, so watch the fuck out.

Throughout all the triupmhs and
disasters of their years of making music together the Giri have
always had one aspect of their output which was pretty much consistently
amazing. In fact it's probable that the best music that the Giri
have ever made has never been heard by anyone but the band themselves
in the confines of their rehearsal room. Every time they rehearsed
they would start making noise and continue to do so for sometimes
hours at a time -unstructured, unplanned and, for the most part,
unbelievably good. It was often suggested that they should bring
this impro-noise madness to the stage, but there was always a
shortfall of guts when it came to the crunch. But not this time!
It's finally going to happen. On the 14th of October at Fight
Club, the Giri will take to the stage and begin to play - with
no idea as to what the first or last note or beat will be. It
will be 30 minutes of guesswork of the highest order. It could
turn out to be a spectacular success or an embarassing flop, but
either way its going to be an unforgettable gig.
14/05/05 Our latest
release - Giri Baby #1 is born!!!
We are heartily proud to announce
that the first Giri child has entered the world. At St Marys Hospital
Manchester on Friday 13th of May (9:09 pm) Giri bassist Ivan and
his girlfriend Mandy became parents to a beautiful baby girl called
-wait for it- Tomasina Cathleen Daynes-Hall (6lbs 12oz).
The rest of the Giri extend their wholehearted congratulations
to the new mum and dad, and look forward to Ivan's tireder and
milky-pukier return to Giri activities in a little while. In the
meantime speculation is rife as to which will be the next Giri
to produce offspring. Be careful about putting money on it though
- there's not one of them that wouldn't do it just to catch a
share of the winnings.

The Giri are now at the end of
phase one of the album flogging mission. There will be a small
break from gig activity while Ivan acquaints his firstborn child
(due any day now) with the horrible reality of facial hair. Meanwhile
work gets underway for phase two and the eventual national release
which will see us actually having the thing in the shops across
the UK.
Giri members' other projects
are bubbling into life - Martin's recording stuff for a new band
and Danny has already established himself as the new Richard Thompson
for the post-post-rock generation - and is starting a new night
at the Briton's protection which looks like being a magnet for
the underused quiet genius of many a Manchester scenester.
Look here for news of all the
above and we'll be seeing you soon...
16/04/05 - Tour Comes
to a close in Manchester with Awe-Inspiring line-up
The Giri have almost finished
their national trudge and to round off phase one of the Album
flogging masterplan the band are playing host to a huge-huge showcase
of filthy brilliance at Night & Day in Manchester on Friday
29th April. From Bristol come Manchester's favourite noisy out-of-towners
Big Joan, and the stunning Ivory Springer
-who rarely make an appearance in these latuitudes so it's very
fucking cool to have them aboard. From Preston come the very exciting
Inside the Black Square who inhabit the sprawling
sonic territorries that Transelement and early Sonar Yen used
to roam - and of course, from round 'ere there's Tsuji
Giri. Check out the gig
page for links to the bands' websites and a flyer for you to print
out and get in cheaper.
